Just Like Prom Night
Katie & The Gray Beards
News!
She has been called "ubiquitous" and there could be no better word. Katie Robinette enjoys all aspects of the music business and likes to keep active in as many avenues as possible. This includes actively singing Jazz, Blues & Mo-town with Katie & The Gray Beards as well as 80s Pop/Rock Covers with Just Like Prom Night.
Her love of music began as a 4 year old, while running around the house in a leotard, wearing headphones singing to Cyndi Lauper. Her love progressed as she joined community youth choirs in middle school and onto community musical theatre. In High School, Katie's family relocated to York, Pennsylvania where she immediately involved herself in York Little Theatre, High School Theatre, Choir and Honors Choir. Soon enough she found herself auditioning for her very first Band, or shall we say Pop Group. She made the audition and joined a guy/girl singing and dancing group called 'As1'. During the boy band era she sang and danced her way in front of Universal and Virgin Record Execs and performed in front of thousands for the famed Showtime at The Apollo.
Meanwhile, Katie discovered another love; the love of writing music. As college approached she decided to enroll at York Collegeas a Vocal Major and after two years decided she needed a change in scenery. Katie moved to Los Angeles and attended the famedMusicians Institute on Hollywood Blvd. The experience opened her eyes to new people, new music and new contemporary vocal methods and this is where she became a Certified Recording Artist. Los Angeles proved to be a challenging environment, and the term starving artist was experience firsthand.
Katie moved back to York, Pennsylvania and returned to York College, only this time she changed her Major to Music Industry & Recording Technology. With an emphasis still on vocals she trained steadily as a Classical vocalist with James Valliant as well as teaching vocal lessons herself at BADOG Music in Emigsville, PA.
She was introduced through a mutual friend to Dr. DJ Sparr-- a Pro in the Classical Composition arena and together they decided to form a band, but they wanted one more member; Katie called up her friend Dan Brenner a jazz instructor and multi-instrumentalist with a knack for high harmonies and the band Sugar Me Sweet was born. Sugar Me Sweet had a 3 year shelf life and since then Katie has been steadily preparing for her solo album debut as well as participating in Commercial work with MAXFilmsout of Ephrata and working full time with Katie & The Gray Beards and Just Like Prom Night.
